Just a quick post to say that a recent brunch at Brother Marcus, an all-day hangout in Balham, was bloody lovely. Brother Marcus is the brainchild of three school friends, Alex, Arthur and Tasos, who have created a charming spot for coffee, cocktails and seasonal food in a very competitive area (with Milk, Brickwood, and Chicken Shop nearby). We turned up in a group of six on a sunny Saturday morning and were instantly seated in their spacious, heated garden area.
All of their enticing brunch dishes come in at under £10, with particular highlights including the In-Law (a pimped up salt beef bagel), the Sugar Daddy (Cinnamon French toasted crumpets with caramelised bananas, pecans & vanilla infused Greek yoghurt), and the Step Sister (sweet potato, courgette and feta fritters, loaded with avocado, spinach, kale, turmeric yoghurt and a poached egg). Most importantly, they encourage you to “add bacon” at almost every turn. There are also £4 small plates to throw into the mix, from halloumi with orange and pistachio to pork belly with parmesan and tomato relish.
Brunch at Brother Marcus is an all week affair, but they shut up shop at 4.30pm most days. If you want to visit in the evening, keep an eye out for their upcoming supper club events. Next up is their own six course Cretan feast on 16th & 17th November, followed by an indulgent takeover by Masterchef 2017 finalists Alison, Giovanna and Lorna (better known as Three Girls Cook) in early December.
