For one night only, on Tuesday 8th August, the fine folk from East London Liquor Company took over the bar at BAO Fitzrovia. They created four bespoke cocktails for the evening to be enjoyed alongside Bao’s Taiwanese treats. Being a fan of both teams, I made my way down to check out the offering, and attempted to take some fun photos with TS Chang in tricky light conditions. Mikey and Miles were on great form behind the bar, serving up clever concoctions that complimented the food. Cocktail #2 was my kind of drink – a smokey blend of mezcal, rye, sochu, pineapple, mango sugar and carrot juice that slipped down very easily. Most interesting though was #3, a super smooth sour which managed to balance cep-infused gin with kummel, lemon, vanilla and squid ink – the perfect accompaniment to Bao’s sha cha squid steak, fried chicken chops and cod black buns. Bao Fitzrovia is a serious upgrade on their flagship Soho site, with a beautiful counter surrounding the central bar for walk ins and more space downstairs which you can reserve.
