The King & Co. in Clapham Common has been on a bit of a roll with their rotating food residencies this year, and their latest partnership with smoked fish fiends Allihopa has just been extended by an extra month until July 3rd by popular demand.
I went down recently with a strong foodie bunch (you’ll have to identify most of them by their hands in pictures below), and we thoroughly enjoyed working our way through Sam & Jake’s Scandi-inspired small plates. The star of the show for me was the beautiful board of cold smoked Norfolk trout served with sweet mustard and horseradish creme fraiche dips. Other highlights included pyttipanna (Swedish hash with mushrooms, parsnip, onion and pickled beetroot), skagenrora (shrimp salad on toast with cos and dill) and some moreish meatloaf with charred cucumber and brown sauce.
If you want something a little bigger, get yourself a plate of their meatballs with sublime mash, pickled cucumber and lingonberry jam, or go all out with their signature “Zlatan” bun that’s packed full of breaded smoked trout and 48 hour salt pork. Phwoar. Though be sure to save room for one of their squishy cinnamon buns.
Some of these dishes reappear on Allihopa’s weekend brunch menu alongside Scandinavian twists on traditional breakfast classics such as ägg royale – hand-smoked Norfolk trout, poached egg and dill hollandaise on rye sourdough. The King & Co. also offers a bottomless boozy brunch on Saturdays from 12-4pm that sounds pretty dangerous.
Allihopa will be in residence at The King & Co. until Sunday 3rd July 2016
