Brunch at BabaBoom | Battersea

London is loving Israeli-influenced food at the moment. The Palomar, The Good Egg, and Berber & Q have made household names of zhoug, pomegranate molasses and za’atar, and paved the way for similar openings across the city. As a SW London resident, I’m delighted to see BabaBoom appear on Battersea Rise. It calls itself a “charcoal kebab kitchen” and serves up delightful combinations of Middle Eastern ingredients on super soft Persian flatbreads, alongside dukkah fries, sweet potato tahini, freekeh tabbouleh and more.

A £20 per head Baba’s Feast sounds like a good way of experiencing their food, and I also love the look of the post 11pm midnight feast with burnt ends and melted cheese making an appearance. But first we decided to go over for brunch (9am-1pm on weekends) for a couple of “good morning kebabs”. Friendly staff were in high spirits, and flavours were spot on in the meat and veg department, with date-glazed bacon and grilled Mastelo cheese deserving of a shout out. On the sweet side, Baba’s eggy bread with clotted cream, honeycomb, Nutella and caramelised bananas was rather special and surprisingly light – don’t miss it. It was a very promising first visit, and we’ll certainly return again soon, both for another brunch, and for the full Baba’s Feast with We Brought Beer chosen brews on the side.
