Good old Dry January – that time of year when people who only go out in December try to convince the rest of us to stop drinking. Thankfully the #Tryanuary campaign (founded in 2015) has started to drown out some of the sobering noise, encouraging people to support local bars, breweries and retailers by trying something new. I need no encouragement of course and was out and about a decent amount with my camera.
Early on in the month, I ventured down to Richmond to record a show with The Beer Podcast folks and beer sommelier Lotte Peplow at the Richmond Tap Tavern – you can listen to that here. Nic and I caught up first at The Mitre, an excellent cask beer bolthole in North Sheen that’s worth going out of the way for. Beers were also consumed last month at the little Mother Kelly’s stand in Spitalfields Market, and at various Bermondsey haunts including a first visit to All Good Beer’s well stocked fridges (tucked inside the Hiver Taproom) and Spartan Brewery’s new space next door to Affinity Brew Co. Oh, and I had a pint at Facebook, as you do.
I frequented Whitecross Street Market in search of cheap eats, with Bibento coming up trumps more than once. January in fact marked the 2nd birthday for London Cheap Eats, and we celebrated with an entertaining team meal at Greyhound Cafe in Fitzrovia – see the Happy Toast video above! Then the rest of this month’s photos are from regular haunts – Italo Deli, 40 Maltby Street, Flat Iron Square, Renegade London Wine for their 1st birthday, and Ella’s flat for a serious Sunday roast with beers to match.
Trips to Richmond Park, Micro Beers and The Mermaid were not included above as they have their own separate posts. Keep up with all of my January activities in full here.
Here’s one more video for you…
