Fried chicken isn’t a trend, it’s a way of life. That said, serious street food traders and chefs have been taking it to the next level over the last few years, giving us foodie types plenty of excuses to get our fried chicken on. A recent visit to New York and David Chang’s Fuku left me craving a similar experience in London. Thankfully, Carl Clarke (Disco Bistro, Chick’n’Sours) has stepped up and launched Chik’n, an affordable fast food chicken joint that that serves up tenders, wings, sandwiches and more, using organic, free-range chickens. From the Straight Up Chik’n sandwich (£4.95) to Carl’s signature hot wings, you can’t go wrong. Grab some sriracha sour cream, nacho fries with szechuan ragout, and a peanut butter coffee shake on the side and get stuck in. The staff deserve a shout out for their great hospitality – smooth service and smiles all round. The Baker Street site is sure to be the first of many – I hope they continue to open two doors down from KFC! P.S. They are also open for breakfast and it looks bloody great – I’ll have the hot cakes and a Chik’n sausage muffin, thanks.
