Several months have passed since my outstanding meal at Kitchen Table but I’d like to put it on record nonetheless. Many Londoners are familiar with Bubbledogs, the popular hot dogs and champagne joint on Charlotte Street in Fitzrovia, but fewer know about the intimate 19-seat, two Michelin starred restaurant hidden in the back. It’s here that you’ll find Chef James Knappett (formerly of The Ledbury, Per Se and Noma) serving up a “12 course menu” (I counted 17) that changes on a daily basis depending on seasonal and freshly foraged ingredients. I’m talking wild primrose leaves, chive flowers, pine tips and the like. Of course, there’s lamb, duck, lobster and more too – don’t you worry.
A seat at the [kitchen] table will set you back £125 before wine (carefully chosen by sommelier and general manager Sandia Chang). That’s quite an investment, but it’s a sound one. Think of it not just as a dinner, but as a first class night on Broadway – 2+ hours of entertainment (no interval), front row tickets, masterful choreography from a chorus of chefs, a symphony of flavours, and more than one encore. I could go through the details of our marathon meal, but you’ll never get the same show twice. What you will get is an outstanding view of some extremely talented individuals at work, and a damn fine feed for good measure – see below. Treat yourself and make a reservation, you won’t regret it.
